Hello! I’m Ruyan.
Welcome to my website Pastel Ark, where I share my art journey.
I am a certified Advanced Instructor in Pastel Nagomi Art, with Diplomas awarded by the Japan Pastel Hope Art Association (JPHAA).
I have always loved art as a kid, but it had been nothing more than the art lessons in school, an enrichment class up until I was 11 years old, and the random doodling.
Then life happened, or so I thought.
College, university, my first job, marriage, kids, . . .
Art couldn’t find a space in my life anymore (for almost 30 years).
Until a chance encounter in 2019, when a friend shared with me some basic techniques of Nagomi art.
Something in my heart stirred, though I didn’t act on it.
Then came 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic making its grand entrance.
We were all cooped up at home, and couldn’t wait to strangle one another.
By a stroke of serendipity, we found a group of Nagomi art instructors offering free online workshops during our local (Singapore) version of a lockdown.
Their intention was pure – to help people deal with their stress and anxiety during those uneasy times, through art. They were like angels descended from heaven.
And the rest is history.
Practising this healing art form has changed my life profoundly.
It quietens my disarrayed mind and leads me into a meditative state, focusing only on the present.
Secretly, I’m thankful to the virus for bringing art back into my life.
Because art is the highest form of hope.
Now, allow me to humbly share my Nagomi art and pastel art journey with you.

Yes, this pandemic has changed everyone’s life. And I’m also thankful that we found nagomi as an form of healing our inner soul.

I can truly identify with you where my art journey is too – finding my way bk into art after a long hiatus (since secondary school days). I’m just as glad to hav found an amazing pastel art instructor in you – so thankful cause I’ve always wanted to do art in soft pastels & there aren’t many instructors here teaching this medium until I encounter Nagomi pastel art. Though it might hav a diff slant to it still there’s much to learn abt pastel techniques fr Nagomi alone! Thank you with all my heart for Yr interesting lessons!
